The science behind the mask

Tomato contains antioxidants like vitamin A and vitamin C which protect skin from skin damaging free radicals that causes wrinkles. Vitamin A also helps in repairing damaged skin. Similarly, vitamin C helps in producing collagen, a protein that is used to create skin. Tomato also has astringent property, which helps in tightening the skin, and the natural cooling effect of tomato helps soothe sunburns.

The face packs use one more ingredient besides tomato for each skin type. For oily skin, lemon juice is used. The citric acid in lemon juice helps fight acne and excess oil from skin; which usually are the main concerns for oily skin. For normal or dry skin, olive oil is used. Olive oil has vitamin E and oleic acid. Oleic acid softens the skin whereas vitamin E improves elasticity; both good for dry and normal skin.
